WP3- GREEN PRACTICES – MAKE IT REAL

29.08.2023-1.09.2023, Agia, GREECE

The third event of the “Green IT Your Work” Project, titled “Green Practices – Making It Real,” was organized by the Agia Municipality in Greece from August 29 to September 1.

On August 30, participants visited the Innovation Park in Joist, located in the city of Larissa, where they discussed certain internal project rules. The visit to the Innovation Park in Joist was included in the program, providing an opportunity to explore new environmentally friendly ways for innovation, aiming to reach people and businesses with different perspectives and objectives. Two small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) then presented their experiences in the field of environmentally impactful businesses.

  1. HELLENIC ENERGY COMPETENCE CENTER, a company active in the energy and sustainability sector – a fundamental pillar of the Greek economy – focusing on SmartCities.
  2. ALPHA WOOD, the largest wood processing industry in Greece and one of the most significant in the Balkans, presented their biomass project, including wood pellet and briquette production, as well as electricity and heat generation from biomass.

Afterward, participants departed by bus to visit the Monastery of Saint Honorable Prophet, aiming to learn about environmentally friendly methods related to the cultivation and production of products in local workshops managed by the nuns, which are made using high-quality raw materials from the monastery’s own farm and garden (ORGANIC AGRICULTURE).

On August 31, the following activities took place: First, participants visited and hiked along the “Melivoia – Velika Trail” on Mount Kissavos in Agia, where they learned about the development of hiking-focused tourism and observed the necessary infrastructure built with local environmental materials and good maintenance, as well as how rural tourism can be promoted. At the end of the hike, there was an opportunity to play a game in the forest. Later, they visited the “Let’s Learn” Youth Center in Agia and had an open discussion with students and young people about gaining knowledge and motivation to accelerate their careers and transition to “greener” job positions in the agricultural and tourism sectors, two fundamental pillars of development in the Agia region. One of the instructors provided detailed information about the environmental education they offer. The meeting concluded with the Apple Festival (apple production represents 35% of the entire country) and the religious celebration of Saint Anthony (a double celebration in Agia).

The project is funded by the European Union under grant number: 101091184.
